• The midterm exam will be held on Monday, July 24, from 7pm-9pm in Gates B01 (the large lecture hall in the basement of the Gates computer science building).  Access to the Gates building after hours is only through the rightmost glass double doors on the east side of the building (where the exterior wall is curved).  You need to swipe your student ID to get in.
• The midterm will cover material up through and including the Wednesday, July 19 lecture.  You'll have two hours to do it, but I expect that you will be able to finish it in about one hour.
• I will spend part of lecture on July 24th reviewing the first half of the course. This review session will be largely question-driven, so bring questions!  I will be out of town and unable to answer questions from the afternoon of Thursday July 20th through the evening of Sunday July 23rd.  My regular office hours scheduled for July 21 at 10am will instead be held on July 20 at 10am.  Likewise, because my office hours on Monday July 24th coincide with the midterm, I've moved them up to 5:45pm-6:45pm.  Come by with any last minue questions you have before the exam.
• Sample Midterms: Here are two sample midterms (given in past versions of CS145). Caveats:
• I didn't cover XQuery, so it won't be on this summer's midterm.
• Past midterms are closed-book and more time-constrained.  This summer will be open book with lots of time.

Final Exam: Saturday Aug 19th, 12:15pm - 3:15pm, Gates B01

• The final exam will take place Saturday Aug 19th, from 12:15pm to 3:15pm in Gates B01.  
• The final exam will cover the entire course, although it will focus more heavily on the material presented after the midterm.
• There will be a review session on Thursday Aug 17th, at 11am in Gates B01.  Like the midterm review session, this will be question-driven, so bring questions!

Alternate and Makeup Exams, Regrades

• Routine alternate or make-up exams will not be given. If you know you will have a legitimate conflict with the out-of-class midterm exam time, please notify me by the end of the first week of class. If you provide an extraordinarily compelling case then an alternate exam may be given, but alternate exams will be oral exams given by the instructor.
• Regrades:
  1. Please do not ask for a regrade on a particular problem until you have studied our sample solution. If you don't understand the sample solution, please visit office hours.
  2. Once you understand the sample solution, if you still believe that your solution is correct, you may either: (1) Visit any staff member's office hours to discuss your solution to the problem and whether a regrade may be warranted; or (2) Attach a note to your exam explaining very clearly why your answer is correct, then turn it in to the TA, marked very clearly for a regrade.
